Science with the High Time Resolution Spectrometer of the International X-ray Observatory

Abstract

The High Time Resolution Spectrometer (HTRS) will provide the International Xray Observatory (IXO) with the capability to observe the brightest phases of neutron star systems (e.g. outbursts, X-ray bursts, magnetar flares), while providing submillisecond time resolution, 150 eV spectral resolution, and zero background. I will discuss the potential of the HTRS for neutron star timing, and show how unprecedented constraints on strong gravity and dense matter equation of state will be derived.
