Talk Title

The X-ray history of the massive binary stellar system Eta Carinae

Abstract

I discuss the discovery of and processes by which the superluminous Blue Variable Eta Carinae, one of the most massive stars in our Galaxy, produces high energy emission at X-ray energies and possibly beyond. I discuss how understanding this emission has revised our understanding of this star, and the implications this has on our understanding of the formation and evolution of Eta Carinae, and perhaps similar stars in the Milky Way and beyond.
