Supernova Remnants in X-rays: Chandra, XMM, and beyond |
|
Abstract |
I will summarize some key results obtained from the X-ray observations of Supernova Remnants (SNRs) in the Chandra and XMM-Newton era. I will focus on studies of shocked ejecta emission in young SNRs. This kind of X-ray observations has an extraordinary potential as a probe of the Supernova phenomenon. I will provide examples in the context of Type Ia Supernovae, their progenitor systems, and their explosion mechanisms. I will conclude with a discussion of the challenges presented by the analysis of current data and the prospects that are opened by future X-ray missions. |
