Talk Title |
Brief Review of the Emergent Universe Scenario |
Abstract |
The emergent universe scenario was proposed in 2002. Using a scalar field it was shown that the initial big-bang singularity could be avoided and there is no need for a quantum era. In this scenario, the universe stars off in an initially almost static state, and then evolves to the state that we observe today. Since then, there have been several investigations involving a nonlinear equation of state or using alternative theories of gravity. In this talk, we give a brief review of the scenario, and discuss some recent work that we have done involving a nonlinear sigma model. |
