Constraining alternative theories of gravity by gravitational waves from precessing compact binaries |
Abstract |
We calculate the possible constraints we can put on the alternative theories of gravities such as Brans-Dicke and massive graviton theories by gravitational waves from inspiral compact binaries. We take precession and small eccentricity into account for the first time. We perform the Monte Carlo simulations and by using the matched filtering analysis, we estimate the determination accuracy of binary parameters including the Brans-Dicke parameter and the graviton Compton length. With LISA, although the constraint on Brans-Dicke thoery is one order of magnitude lower than the current strongest one, the constraint on the mass of graviton is four orders of magnitude greater than the one obtained by the solar system experiment. With DECIGO/BBO, the former constraint increases considerably. |
