Stochastic background of gravitational waves by cosmological compact binaries

Abstract

We study the generation of a stochastic gravitational wave background generated by compact binary systems formed by neutron stars and black holes. Its is studied, in particular, the cosmological compact binary systems in scenarios of structure formation of the universe, such as that by Springel & Hernquist. We then study the detectability of this gravitational wave background and discuss what astrophysical information could be obtained from a positive, or even a negative detection, of such a putative background.
