Talk Title

The monolithic suspension status for the Virgo Interferometer

Abstract

Thermal noise in mirror suspension wires is the main limitation to the low-frequency sensitivity of present interferometric gravitational wave detectors. In order to minimize the pendulum thermal noise, a monolithic suspension, using fused silica as a low dissipation material, has been developed for the Virgo+ detector. We present here the status and the performances of the last suspension stage full scale prototypes installed in Cascina and in Perugia. The obtained results, crucial to finalize the design of the suspension elements to be installed in the next future on Virgo+ and on the advanced interferometer version (Advanced Virgo), are reported.
