The Poincar{\'e} Gauge Theory of Gravity and the Immirzi Parameter

Abstract

The formulation of the Einstein-Cartan theory as a gauge theory of the Poincare group will be recalled. The ambiguity of the standard minimal coupling procedure in this theory will be explained and a natural solution presented. The inclusion of the Holst term and the spin generating matter will be discussed. The issue of measurability of the Immirzi parameter in semi-classical experiments, which do not invoke to the quantum theory of geometry, will be reconsidered.
