Matter in asymptotically safe quantum gravity | |||||

Abstract |
We investigate the high-energy properties of matter theories coupled to asymptotically safe quantum gravity. Since asymptotic safety implies that the high-energy regime is dominated by an interacting fixed point, this can have interesting consequences for matter. As an example, quantum gravity fluctuations can induce new matter self-interactions in scalar or fermionic theories, thus fundamentally altering the properties of the matter system. A specific requirement for a theory consistent with observations is, that low-energy properties of the matter sector, such as the existence of light fermions, remain unchanged, thus possibly restricting the allowed UV completion for gravity. Furthermore, the fixed-point properties of the coupled matter-gravity system can even lead to observable signals, e.g. in photon-photon scattering experiments. |
