Title

Monte Carlo simulations of the photospheric emission in GRBs
Co-authors I. A. Siutsou, G. V. Vereshchagin

Abstract

With a Monte-Carlo simulation of photon scattering we studied the decoupling of photons from ultra-relativistic spherically symmetric outflows moving with constant velocity. We checked some results obtained previously in the case of steady wind. Then we studied finite outflows and confirmed the existence of two regimes: photon thick and photon thin asymptotic. We obtained light-curves and spectra in the photon thick case, while in the photon thin case we confirmed the important role of photon diffusion. The probability density function of photon last scattering is shown to be very different in these two cases. Our results find direct application in the theory of photospheric emission for Gamma Ray Bursts.
