Abstract |
Recently, the study of compressed atoms has been revisited by extending to relativistic regimes the approach of Feynman-Metropolis-Teller (FMT) taking into account nuclear, weak, as well as coulomb interaction, in the case of zero temperatures. The EOS is obtained by solving the Fermi equation in a Wigner-Seitz cell together with the beta equilibrium condition between neutrons, protons and electrons. We generalize here such a treatment to the case of finite temperature. The application of this EOS to the equilibrium configuration of white dwarfs is discussed. |
