Title

Post-Newtonian-Affine tidal interactions
Co-authors Valeria Ferrari, Leonardo Gualtieri, Francesco Pannarale

Abstract

Coalescing binaries are among the most promising sources of gravitational waves for the new generation of terrestrial and space interferometers. Moreover they have been suggested as a possible explanation of short gamma-ray burst. Tidal interactions occurring in the last phases of these systems, can cause the neutron star disruption and are equation of state dependent: detection of the emitted gravitational signal may hence provide useful information on the stellar internal structure. In this talk we present a new semi-analytical approach to describe tidal interactions in black hole-neutron star or neutron star-neutron star binaries, based on the post-Newtonian expansion and the Affine approximation. We show how this model reproduces fully relativistic simulations and allows to derive the neutron star deformation properties.
