Abstract |
SYRTE is developing an ensemble of high performance atomic clocks and precision oscillators. This ensemble provides many possibilities for testing fundamental physical laws, relying on the high accuracy and high stability of these devices, independently of any cosmological models. We will report more specifically on comparisons between 87Rb and 133Cs hyperfine frequencies with laser-cooled atomic fountain clocks which provide tests of the stability of fundamental constants both in time and space. The measurements extending over 14 yr set a stringent limit to a putative variation with time of the Rb/Cs frequency ratio. They also set the first limit to a fractional variation of the frequency ratio with gravitational potential, providing a new stringent differential redshift test. Combining with other available highly accurate clock comparisons, we will provide updated independent constraints on the variations and couplings to gravity of the 3 constants \alpha, scaled quark mass, µ=me/mp, at the present epoch. |
