Abstract |
The Advanced LIGO detectors, currently under construction in the US are anticipated to ensure direct detection of gravitational waves. This talk will give an outline of the key technologies that can be used to upgrade the Advanced LIGO observatories and to further improve their sensitivity. The application of innovative technologies, such as the injection of squeezed light states or the cooling of the test masses to cryogenic temperatures, can allow us to increase the sensitivity by a factor of about 3-4. Such an improvement will increase the observed event rate of astro- physical sources by about a factor of 30. |
