Binary Neutron Star Merger with realistic EOS | |||||

Abstract |
For numerical simulations of binary neutron star mergers, both thermal and composition effects are very important. Such effects have recently been incorporated into the general relativistic hydrodynamics code Whisky by means of three-dimensional lookup tables for the equation of state (EOS). I will present preliminary results for the merger of neutron stars obeying the Gang Shen EOS, with focus on temperature evolution, gravitational signal, and the behavior of the constraints. I will also discuss implementation details which become important when switching from simple analytic EOSs to EOSs provided by nuclear physics in form of low resolution tables, possibly including jumps. In particular, I present a new robust scheme for the conversion from conserved to primitive variables. |
