Title

A broadband gamma-ray focusing lens: new progress of the LAUE project
Co-authors E. Virgilli, F. Frontera, V. Valsan

Abstract

We will report the progress of the LAUE project devoted to the building of a high focal length Laue lens for soft gamma–ray astronomy (80-300 keV). The final goal is to develop a focusing optics that can improve the current sensitivity in the above energy band with respect to the current X/Gamma-ray missions. We also discuss the feasibility of the project and present the Monte Carlo simulations defining the materials and the optimized thickness in order to build a Laue lens petal with the maximized effective area and sensitivity. A new generation of diffractive bent crystals will be employed, by means of which is it possible to improve the lens focusing capability.
