Two new tests of the properties of strong-field gravity | |||||

Abstract |
In this talk I will discuss two new tests of general relativity. In the first one, we measure the masses of the components of PSR J1738+0333 using optical spectroscopy of the WD in this system. This allows a prediction of the orbital decay due to the emission of GWs. Timing measurements of the millisecond pulsar in this system detect this orbital decay at a level consistent with the predictions of GR, setting the most stringent limits on Scalar-Tensor theories of gravity. In the second one, we propose a new test of the strong equivalence principle based on the measurement of the variation of the orbital eccentricity of pulsar-white dwarf binary systems with wide orbits. This test is very clean and has great potential for improvement in the future. |
