Direct search for dark matter with depleted liquid argon at the Gran Sasso laboratory | |||||

Abstract |
At the Gran Sasso laboratory, Italy, is under construction a 50-kg depleted argon detector, named DarkSide-50 (DS-50). This apparatus brings a new technology for background reduction in the direct search of dark matter and is expected to start data taking in early 2013. In particular, the development of depleted argon and the use of an active neutron veto with a boron loaded liquid scintillator will be presented. The experimental set-up of DS-50 and its physics reach will be described. A prototype of DS-50, called DS-10, is in data taking since Sept 2011 at the underground laboratory. This set-up makes use of 1m water shielding. DS-10 has been built to test the technology for DS-50. The experimental data of DS-10 will be presented. |
