Title |
The Submillimeter Diffuse Emission of the Galaxy: the Planck Contribution | |||||

Abstract |
After 30 months of observation, the High Frequency Instrument of the Planck mission has provided all sky surveys with unprecedented sensitivity in submillimeter wavelength range. The emission of the galaxy, by far the brightest in this wavelength range, is dominated by the thermal radiation of the interstellar dust, but a significant fraction of it comes from molecular lines such as CO transition lines. The line contribution can be extracted from the total flux measured thanks to the many spectral channels of HFI and their accurate intercalibration, providing a first all sky survey of the CO molecule. Structuration of the dust emission is seen at all scales. The smallest structures detected by Planck were observed by the Herchel satellite, showing similar structure down to the early stellar formation phase. Physical properties of the dust seen through its thermal emission are derived from the multiwavelength surveys, bringing new insights of the dust physics. |
