Title

Effect of temperature on oscillations in young neutron stars
Co-authors

Abstract

Non-barotropic neutron stars allow for g-modes, whose driving force, buoyancy, may be due to a composition or a temperature gradient. For this study—the aim of which is to include more physics in the neutron star model than in previous studies—we take thermal pressure into account on top of a cold, realistic equation of state which is obtained from quantum many-body calculations including composition. We study the effect of thermal pressure on the various oscillation modes of a neutron star in the framework of general relativistic perturbation theory. We also investigate how the effect of temperature gradually decreases as the neutron star cools over time.
