Dark Energy Models and Laws of Thermodynamics

Abstract

We investigate the validity of the laws of thermodynamics for a universe filled with a combination of dark matter and dark energy. We consider two types of dark energy models, i.e., generalized holographic dark energy and generalized Ricci dark energy with apparent, particle and event horizons of the universe. It is shown that the first and the generalized second law of thermodynamics always hold on the apparent horizon for both types of energy models. However, the first law breaks down on the particle and event horizons, while the generalized second law holds on the particle horizon but breaks down on the event horizon. Further, we take fixed radius L of the horizon with original holographic or Ricci dark energy. In this case, the first law does not hold while the generalized second law of thermodynamics is valid.
