Discovery of black hole spindown in hyper-energetic CC-SNe and long GRBs | |||||

Abstract |
We recently identified a number of hyper-energetic aspherical CC-SNe with kinetic energies exceeding the rotational energy of a rapidly rotating proto-neutron star (jointly with M. Della Valle and A. Levinson). They may, instead, be powered by the rotational energy of a black hole through the action of frame-dragging. Exploiting their association with GRBs, we further considered an ensemble average of the 1491 light curves of long GRBs in the BATSE catalogue. We identify spindown of initially rapidly rotating black holes, rather than spindown of PNS. Detailed considerations point to black hole spindown against matter at the ISCO, rather than further out. An energetic explosion thus ensues by powerful disk winds accompanying an emission in MeV-neutrinos and GWs. Upcoming optical-radio surveys of the Local Transient Universe may identify the most nearby CC-SNe as TOOs for LIGO, Virgo and KAGRA. |
