Title

Stellar forensics with the Supernova-GRB connection
Co-authors

Abstract

I will review the observational status of the Supernova/Gamma-Ray Burst connection, with emphasis on the Swift Era. While observations of long duration Gamma-ray bursts suggest that most, if not all, are associated with luminous Type Ic SNe with broad lines, the key outstanding question remains over a decade about what factors and conditions lead to each kind of explosion in stripped stars. I will review the features and peculiarities of SN-GRBs and compare them to SNe Ic without GRBs, as well as their progenitor environments. A distinctive property of SN-GRBs may be their low-metallicity environments, though recently high starformation has been suggested as the main driver for determining the host properties of SN-GRBs. I will review the status of these issues and will try to summarise what we have learned and what, in my opinion, is still unclear.
