Abstract |
We revisit the quest of magnetar progenitors and associated supernovae (Allen & Horvath 2004). The recent identifications of CXOU J171405.7-381031/CTB 37B and PSR J1622–4950/G333.9+0.0 are addressed, and the issue of the explosion energy and age clarified for a self-consistent field generation. To comply with stellar evolution requirements the mass of the progenitors is suggested to lie in the interval $18 M_{\odot} \leg M \leq 35 M_{\odot}$, while the remnants are expected to be very energetic and younger than the ages emerging from current Sedov-Taylor estimates. |
