Title

Stability and Instability of Extremal Black Holes
Co-authors

Abstract

Rapid progress has been made in the last 5 years on the stability problem of black holes. Robust methods have been developed which provide a definitive understanding of the linear stability of subextremal black holes. In this talk, I will present recent results about extremal black holes, i.e. black holes with maximum charge or angular momentum. In particular, I will derive instability results for extremal black holes which are in sharp contrast with the non-extremal case.
