Seiberg-Witten Stability of Various Topological Black Holes in AdS/CFT | |||||

Abstract |
Topological black holes are important in various applications of AdS/CFT, notably in the study of quark-gluon plasma and condensed matter theory. When embedded in string theory such black holes are vulnerable to stringy effects which could render them unstable. Specifically such instability occurs when the Seiberg-Witten action becomes negative. We study the stability of charged dilaton black holes and comment on the implications on the CFT side of the correspondence. We also find that there exist charged dilaton black holes with Seiberg-Witten action that once becomes negative, nevertheless does not stay negative, a behavior not present for charged black holes in general relativity. We also find such behavior for black holes in HořavaLifshitz gravity, and comment on the importance to understand this phenomenon. |
