Microlensing towards the Small Magellanic Cloud | |||||

Abstract |
There are 6 microlensing events found up to now towards the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). The great interest in the location of the observed microlensing events towards the SMC is motivated by the need to give an answer to the question of their nature. Using different results on SMC morphology we have simulated the optical depth and microlensing differential rate for all possible configurations (self-lensing, lenses in the Galactic Halo, in the SMC Halo and in the Galactic disk) and we compare our results with observed one. We tried to understand whether (or not) all the events can be attributed to known (luminous) populations, so to exclude (or not) the possibility for a dark component in the halo in the form of MACHOs. |
