A vie in the past (and future):The beginning of redshift surveys (<1980) and the LSS | |||||

Abstract |
The decade 1970 - 1980 has been fundamental in developing the new ideas about the LSS and completely changed, with some difficulties, the way of thinking about the distribution of light (galaxies) in the Universe. I will focus on these developments. These data indicated the new direction of research to pursue and later in the 80ties we had the era of the CfA survey, that fully confirmed earlier findings, and other well known surveys as the one we started in Arecibo. Later in addition to the search for the distribution of light (galaxies) milestones of the LSS have been the observations and studies for the distribution of matter: the "potent" analysis and weak lensing that now is one of the fundamental technique for understanding the LSS and the distribution of mass. I conclude with a brief mention to a few specific goals for future studies. |
