Title

The nature of GRB relativistic outflows: temporal and spectral signatures
Co-authors

Abstract

One of the most promising ways to shed light on the nature of GRB relativistic outflows is to look for specific temporal and spectral signatures during the prompt emission phase. Regarding the temporal aspect, we investigate for various GRB models, whether the XRT early steep decay that usually ends the prompt phase can be produced by high-latitude emission or should be explained by another mechanism (e.g. a continuous declining activity of the central engine). Regarding the spectral signatures, possible detections of the photospheric emission represent a promising diagnostic. We investigate a scenario where the GRB outflow is initially magnetically dominated but contains a subdominant thermal component. We explore the parameter space and compare predictions (light-curves and spectra) with observations.
