Abstract |
During parts of LIGO and Virgo's recent science runs, partner astronomical observatories were for the first time alerted to gravitational wave candidate triggers with sub-hour latency. We report on Swift satellite X-ray and UV/optical results obtained from follow-ups of two LIGO/Virgo candidate triggers as part of this prototype program. In addition to these observational results, we present a monte carlo study demonstrating the potential gains in statistical significance resulting from multi-messenger X-ray/gravitational wave observations. |
