Title

Properties and Impact Signatures of Compact Ultra Dense Objects

Abstract

Gravitationally-bound objects composed of beyond-Standard Model ultra-heavy fermions m>1 TeV and objects self-bound by a vacuum pressure B>(1 TeV)^4 have characteristic sizes < 1 cm and masses less than the Earth. When these objects collide with rocky planets such as the Earth their strong gravitational tidal forces are expected to produce distinctive impact features. These impact features offer a novel search mode to constrain certain classes of particles/sectors with high characteristic energy scale.

Title

Quantum Fluctuations Can Compete with Gravity

Abstract

In quantum electrodynamics, fluctuations of electron-positron pairs generate a nonlinear theory of electromagnetism. The nonlinear interactions are suppressed by the electron mass through the magnetic field scale 4.4 x 10^9 T. Fields approaching this magnitude are thought to be found in the neighbourhood of strongly-magnetized compact stars. I show that the quantum-induced nonlinearity generates a force that competes with gravity even for magnetic fields smaller than 10^9 T.
