Joint search for Gravitational Waves and Neutrinos from Core-Collapse Supernovae | |||||

Abstract |
We present an overview of the benefits of a joint search between gravitational waves and neutrino signals from core-collapse supernovae. Core-collapse supernovae are potential sources of gravitational waves and have a well-established signature in terms of neutrinos and electromagnetic emission. On the gravitational wave side, there is still much uncertainty in the expectation for the gravitational wave observational range due to the present lack of observational constraints. Gravitational waves and neutrino signals are expected to reach the observer frame nearly at the same time, while the optical signal can arise up to hours after the collapse. Coincident neutrino and gravitational wave signals would bring valuable information from the inner core of the star, helping constraining the physical model of the collapse. A joint search would benefit in sensitivity, detection confidence and coincidence livetime coverage. Moreover, it would enhance the detection of core collapse events with no electromagnetic counterpart. |
