Lorentz violation in Majorana-inspired Elko spinors and dark matter | |||||

Abstract |
We here provide an introduction to Elko, a complete set of four eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator. Elko systematically violate Lorentz symmetry without modification to the dispersion relation. Lorentz symmetry violation appears as a preferred direction in the Elko spin sums. On the other hand, for the symmetries of the SIM(2) subgroup of the Lorentz group, the spin sums are found to be invariant. As was shown by Ahluwalia and Grumiller in 2005, Elko allow for the construction of fermionic quantum fields of mass dimension one that fail to respect U(1) gauge symmetry and are thereby intrinsically dark with respect to the matter and gauge fields of the standard model. They also enjoy unsuppressed quartic self-interaction and are thus proposed as a natural candidate for dark matter. |
