Polarisation measurement in Cyg X-1 high energy emission with SPI/INTEGRAL | |||||

Abstract |
Operational since 2002, the SPI spectrometer onboard the INTEGRAL observatory can be used to perform polarisation measurement in the hard X-ray domain (130 keV -8 MeV). We have thus dedicated our effort to develop the required tools to study the polarisation in the \textit{INTEGRAL} SPI data and first applied them to Cyg X-1 observations. We found that the high energy emission of Cyg X-1 is indeed polarised, with a mean polarisation fraction of about 75% at a position angle estimated to 42 +/- 3 degrees. We will discuss this result, together with spectral information. |
