Relativistic Dipole Radiation Mode in the Model of Hercules X-1

Abstract

Radiation of charged particles in Cyclotron and Relztivistic Dipole modes is investigated. Radiation characteristics, in particular power, angular and spectral distribution, are considered. Special attention is paid to polarization properties of the radiation. Approach which allows us to distinguish between Cyclotron and Relativistic Dipole modes is worked out. Applicability of the model of Relativistic Dipole radiation mode in the case of a neutron star, particularly Hercules X-1, is considered.

Relativistic Dipole Radiation In The Model Of Hercules X-1

Abstract

Two radiation regimes are considered. The first one is provided by electrons moving in a magnetic field in circles with non-relativistic velocity (Cyclotron radiation). The second one is provided by electrons moving in a magnetic field on a helix with ultra-relativistic longitudinal and non-relativistic transverse velocity components. The applicability of these models is considered by the example of the object Hercules X-1. The test based on polarization observations is suggested to distinguish between the cyclotron and relativistic dipole origin of features observed in X-ray spectra of X-ray sources.
