Abstract |
The concept of an elementary particle in curved spacetimes is not as unequivocal as that in conventional Minkowski space. Here two different particle notions will be considered - quantum mechanical and group theoretical, which were proposed and shown to be equivalent in Minkowski spacetime. It will be reported how these definitions generalize to curved spacetimes, and to what extent they remain equivalent. The emphasize will be put on the underlying mathematical methods rather than on physical implications. Discussion of mathematical methods will be conducted in a relatively loose manner, in order to enhance better intuitive understanding of the picture at hand. All definitions and results are made completely rigorous in the references. |
