Abstract

Progress in photonics and spectroscopic techniques is paving the way to unprecented precision and sensitivity levels for molecular measurements. Recent results will be shown that combine frequency comb synthesizers, covering different spectral regions, from the visible-near infrared to the mid/far infrared, with difference-frequency generators, optical parametric oscillators and quantum cascade lasers. These novel set-ups, when synchronized with primary frequency standards by use of state-of-the-art technology, like optical fiber links, can make available for laboratory measurements a stability improved by orders of magnitude, accessing unprecedented sensitivity in molecular detection and accuracy in frequency measurements. Experiments in progress in our group on cold molecular samples will be discussed, as well as their implications in tests of fundamental physical laws.
