Abstract

Rotating wormhole solutions in General Relativity are presented, which are supported by a phantom scalar field. In four space--time dimensions this family of solutions evolves from the static Ellis wormhole, when a finite angular velocity is imposed at the throat. At a maximal value of the rotational velocity, the family of wormhole solutions ends in an extremal Kerr solution. The properites of these rotating wormhole solutions including their mass, angular momentum, quadrupole moment, and ergosphere are discussed. In five space--time dimensions rotating wormholes with equal magnitude angular momenta are presented. Here a stability analysis shows, that the unstable mode of the Ellis solutions disappears, when the angular momentum of the wormhole is sufficiently high.
