Title |
Polarization as a Direct Probe of GRB Jets | |||||

Abstract |
The composition, collimation and acceleration of GRB jets remains an open topic. Theoretical frameworks for the properties of GRB jets are broadly degenerate in their predictions for light curve behaviour. In contrast, there are significant differences in predicted polarisation properties. I will review the current status of polarisation observations of GRB prompt and afterglow emission at optical and gamma-ray energies, with a particular focus on rapid, early time observations when the fundamental properties of the fireball are still encoded in the detected light. I will end with a look to future experiments. |
