Abstract	I will review some recent work on high energy string brane collisions at sub-string-length impact parameters concentrating on two physical issues: 1. The way string theory avoids the causality problems that arise generically from short-distance corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert action; 2. A microscopic description of the absorption of the incoming string by the branes accompanied by the formation of a very excited, yet pure, open string state
