Abstract |
I will review the science themes motivating the need of a large collecting area, high energy resolution X-ray Telescope. The approved ESA mission ATHENA (due for launch in 2028) and its onboard instrumentation will have the capability to address a a broad range of scientific issues. After a brief review of the ATHENA performances, I will discuss a few examples of science cases concerning the physics and evolution of accreting Supermassive Black Holes and cluster of Galaxies which will be investigated by ATHENA. I will also mention possible tests of general relativity in the strong field limit. |
