Title

Buyoancy and g-modes in Maturing Neutron Stars

Abstract

I will discuss the role of the internal composition and the state of matter for the buoyancy that supports the gravity g-modes in a neutron star. The aim is to illustrate how competing contributions change as the star evolves from a young, relatively hot object, to a cold star with a superfluid core. I will present results of both a local analysis and a global-mode analysis for a sequence of models determined by a state-of-the-art cooling calculation. The discussion demonstrates the kind of information that needs to be provided by equation of state models, and I will highlight areas that need to be improved by future work.
