Title

Asymptotic Symmetries and Soft-Theorems
Coauthors

Abstract

Holographic description of quantum gravity in flat space is not yet known. Therefore, any calculation in flat space that has a holographic nature can potentially provide us a clue for developing holography for flat space. For quantum field theories in Minkowski space, S-matrix is a holographic observable by definition. In this talk I will show how Weinberg's soft-photon theorem can be derived as a tree-level Ward identity for a symmetry of the S-matrix. The symmetry in question is a certain diagonal subgroup of the product group of gauge transformations on the future and past null infinity. This symmetry is broken in the Fock vacuum and the soft-photons are the corresponding Goldstone bosons.
