State-of-the-art of the hard x-/soft gamma-ray focusing telescopes: the LAUE project status. |
Abstract |
Laue lenses appear to be excellent tools to investigate the X and Gamma-ray sky with unprecedent sensitivity and imaging capabilities. Thanks to the breakthrough made by materials science, engineering and cristallography in the last years, the development of a 15-20 meters focal length focusing telescope based on Laue lenses is a concrete possibility. In the LARIX facility of the University of Ferrara, a module of Laue lens is being built (a lens petal) within the project named LAUE, devoted to build an entire lens for gamma-ray astrophysics for the broad energy band ~90-600 keV. Our aim is to demonstrate the capability to reach the required accuracy (< 20 arcsec) for setting hundreds diffractive bent crystals over a light and rigid lens support which is made of carbon fiber. We will also describe the upgraded facility and the tools that allowed us to reach our goal. |
