The Inner Galaxy Excess in Gamma-Ray Data from Fermi

Abstract

Studies of the inner Galaxy using public data from the Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope have unveiled surprising features of the diffuse gamma-ray emission - including the giant structures known as the Fermi Bubbles, and an as-yet-unexplained excess of GeV-scale gamma-rays peaking at the Galactic Center. I will discuss the detailed characterization of this latter excess, and its possible interpretations, spanning astrophysical sources and annihilating dark matter.
