Effects Of Plasma On Gravitational Lensing

Abstract

When the gravitational lens surrounding by plasma, an extra deflection angle is induced by the plasma in addition to the deflection angle generated by gravity. The extra deflection causes significant effects to be detected in low frequency radio observations (a few hundred MHz). In particular, the lensed images will be different between the optical and radio observation. Some strong lensing properties in plasma lensing will be shown, such as multiple image positions, and strong lensing time delay. The estimation of the Hubble constant from the strong lensing time delay may be biased due to the plasma. However, one may also learn some information of the plasma in the lens from comparing the optical and radio observations in strong lensing.
