Strong Gravity with Interferometric Observations of Sgr A*

Abstract

Extremely high resolution interferometric observations of the Galactic center black hole, Sgr A* at submillimeter and near-infrared wavelengths will provide new information about accretion physics and strong gravity in the vicinity of a black hole event horizon. Maximizing the science return on the data requires theoretical modeling. I will describe event horizon scale emission models of Sgr A*, their comparison to existing data, the promise for detecting signatures of strong gravity in the future, and the key theoretical uncertainties that will need to be addressed in the near future.
