Quark-Novae : Signatures in Astrophysical Data and Implications to Compact Stars

Abstract

After a brief account of the physics of the Quark-Nova (explosive transition of a neutron star to a quark star due to quark deconfinement), I will present indirect observational evidence of the Quark-Nova  in  astrophysical data (e.g. superluminous SNe, low-mass X-ray binaries). I will focus on clues in SGRs/AXPs data with special emphasis on the 13 keV emission feature and ``anti-glitches" in AXPs.   I will discuss how this data, in the context of the QN model, can be used to constraint the equation of state of nuclear/neutron matter and infer conditions for the onset of quark matter inside neutron stars.
