Evidence for electromagnetic black hole spin down in GRB light curves |

Abstract |
Our aim is to check for signs of exponential decay in the first decay phase of the afterglow in the long duration GRB light curves. We want to associate this exponential decay with the black hole spin down due to the Blandford-Znajek mechanism. We studied 343 long duration GRB light curves observed with the XRT instrument on the Swift satellite. We checked the quality of our exponential fits with R-squared statistics and estimated the timescale parameter τBZ of the exponential function. We also found GRBs that have flares with exponential emission decay. |
