Measuring frame-dragging and other relativistic effects in the field of Jupiter with Juno

Abstract

The Juno spacecraft will arrive at Jupiter in July 2016. As suggested by independent analyses, it will offer an important opportunity to measure the gravitomagnetic field of the gaseous giant planet due to its angular momentum S through the Lense-Thirring effect. In view of the high values of the spacecraft's orbital eccentricity e and of the planet's oblateness J_2, also the general relativistic effects of order J_2 c^-2 might be measurable.
